Attorney General Jay Nixon, who is reportedly contemplating a bid for governor in 2008, will be the featured speaker at the Cape Girardeau County Democratic Party's Fall Festival.
The event will be held Nov. 19 at the University Center on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.
Democratic Central Committee chairman Tom Neumeyer said in a statement that the party believes it is gaining ground locally. Economic issues, especially high gas prices, and cuts in government services such as Medicaid help highlight the differences between Democrats and Republicans, Neumeyer said.
Nixon is serving his fourth consecutive term as attorney general, first winning election to the post in 1992. He won handily in Cape Girardeau County in 2004 while most other Democratic candidates were losing.
Also appearing at the festival will be state Rep. Rachel Storch of St. Louis, in her first term in the Missouri House and deputy whip of the minority caucus.
