Dr. Dale Nitzschke signed a two-year $125,000 contract Saturday with the Board of Regents at Southeast Missouri State University.

He begins his job as university president in July. Nitzschke was hired April 30 to replace Dr. Kala Stroup. She became Missouri's commissioner of higher education.

Nitzschke was one of three finalists for the job at Southeast. He was president of the University of New Hampshire at Durham before accepting a position with the Cape Girardeau university.

Nitzschke visited the campus this weekend and attended graduation exercises Saturday afternoon.

During a regent's meeting Saturday morning, he agreed to a two-year contract with optional renewals, said Donald Harrison, president of the Board of Regents.

Beginning in July, Nitzschke's salary will be $125,000, excluding an 8 percent annuity and fringe benefits.
