The music department at Southeast Missouri State University, including the Choral Union, University Choir and the University Orchestra, will present Handel's "Dettingen Te Deum" Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Academic Auditorium.

The University Orchestra, under the direction of Sara Edgerton, will open the concert with Handel's Viola Concerto. Southeast student Melissa Schillito will be the viola soloist.

The orchestra will also perform movements from Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Composed in 1807-1808, it is considered a masterpiece of symphonic genre.

The Choral Union is directed by John B. Egbert and is open to all community and church choir singers, in addition to university students and staff.

About 120 people will sing at the concert. Handel, best known for his oratorio "Messiah," is regarded by the English as the most imposing figure in English music during his lifetime.

There is no charge for those with a Southeast University I.D. card to attend. Admission for the general public is $3 for adults, and $1.50 for all school-aged children and senior citizens.
