The senior guard scored 28 points in the opening 62-55 win against Pine Bluff, Ark., scoring all of his points in the final three periods after the two teams played to a 6-6 deadlock after one period.

He was 5-of-6 on free throws in the final period, when he scored 12 points, and he finished as the only scorer in double figures for the Cubs.

Niemczyk came back Saturday night and scored 29 points in a 68-58 victory against West Memphis.

Niemczyk‚s hot start ˜ he scored 27 points Monday in the Woodland tourney-opening win for the Cubs ˜ is no surprise. He was an all-state second-team selection last year in Class 1 after averaging about 20 points and five assists per game.
