Starting today, Independence Street will be closed westbound between Kingshighway and Clark Avenue, according to a Cape Girardeau news release.
The work is the next phase in the Independence Street widening project, funded by the city's Transportation Trust Fund sales tax.
The contractor on the project, Fronabarger Concreters, estimates project completion in six weeks, weather permitting. Eastbound traffic will still be able to travel through the construction zone.
Independence Street from Minnesota Street/Keller Avenue to Caruthers Avenue is now complete, according to the news release.
