NEWSPAPER WINS AWARDS IN ADVERTISING COMPETITION

The Southeast Missourian was a big winner in the Missouri Advertising Managers' Association's advertising contest.

Missourian entries captured a first, second and two honorable mentions in the contest.

Pat Zellmer, advertising director of the Missourian, received the results of the contest late last week.

The advertising managers' association is headquartered at Columbia and is headed by Martin Keller of Mexico.

A "Rust Communications Corporate Overview" booklet, describing Rust Communication's Network of Newspapers and what it consists of captured the No. 1 position in the Best Newspaper Promotion for Dailies.

The corporate overview described the network of six daily newspapers with a circulation of 126,287 circulations; 10 weeklies combined for 55,581 circulation and two weekly shoppers combined for 42,800. Since the pamphlet was published, a weekly newspaper has been founded at Dyersburg, Tenn., giving the Missourian Network of Newspapers wide circulations in Southeast Missouri, Northern Arkansas and West Tennessee. The pamphlet was designed by Teresa Connell.

The Missourian also captured a second in the Best Newspaper Promotion for Dailies with a "Readership Update," also designed by Connell.

Honorable mentions came in the Best Special Section and Best Use of Full Four Color categories.

The Newcomers Guide, distributed by the Missourian and by Chambers of Commerce in Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City, was headed by Donna Denson. The four-color winning ad was produced for Southeast Missouri Hospital. It was designed by Scott Anderson and sold by Carole Clayton.

Awards will be presented during the association's annual awards meeting Oct. 26 and 27 in Columbia.
