The Southeast Missourian and Southeast Missouri State University will co-sponsor a beginning Internet class in April.

A number of openings remain in the beginners class, which will be held the night of April 13 from 7 to 9 in Dempster Hall on the Southeast campus. Each class is limited to 38 people, since each person will have a computer.

The class offers a basic introduction to the Internet for beginners. It includes a step-by-step discussion of how to use Internet Explorer, search engines and a tour of practical and fun sites on the World Wide Web.

A beginners class scheduled April 6 is already filled.

The beginners class will be repeated May 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. In addition, an intermediate class is scheduled May 13 from 7 to 9 p.m. The community Internet training program will then take a hiatus for the summer.

The intermediate hands-on class covers such topics as wallpaper-screensavers, e-mail, chat, downloading, home pages and tuning up computers. Mouse skills and a basic understanding of Windows 95/98 are helpful.

Individuals interested in registering should call Joni Adams or Peggy Scott at (573) 335-6611 or 1-800-879-1210. Cost is $10 for the beginners class and $15 for the intermediate training. Payment is required in advance.

Several staff members from SEMissourian.com, the official Web site of the Southeast Missourian, will be on hand to direct students. A number of informational handouts are included as part of the registration fee.
