Eleven Southeast Missourian newspaper carriers have been honored as "Carriers of the Year."
The carriers, who combined to deliver more than 1 million papers during the past year, were cited during a special awards banquet held at the Royal N' Orleans Restaurant.
Honored were:
Vance Boyer, Richard Hahn, Ken Hill, Michael Klaus, Jeff Mayfield, Tim Mayfield, Bill Propst, Jimmy Stone, Joe Thompson, John Wills and Greg Wisdom.
"These 11 individuals have earned this honor the old-fashioned way, with genuine hard work and dedication to doing a job right the first time," said Mark Kneer, director of circulation and marketing at the Southeast Missourian.
Each month, statistics in three service related areas were charted for all individuals delivering the paper. Those who achieved the goals earned the honor as a "Carrier of the Month."
Prerequisites for the honors included:
-- Customer home delivery complaints below one complaint per 1,000 newspapers delivered.
-- On-time delivery to subscribers.
-- Use of plastic bags to cover the papers when weather conditions require it.
The winning Carriers of the Year met these qualifications 12 consecutive months, starting Oct. 1, 1994, and running through Sept. 30.
Winners received cash awards and a limited edition Southeast Missouri jacket.
