JACKSON -- A fire that is believed to have started in the paint room at the Lee-Rowan plant in Jackson, sent two workers to the hospital and the rest home Tuesday night.

All fire trucks in Jackson were dispatched to the plant after someone reported the fire at 10:01 p.m.

Two workers were reportedly transported to Southeast Missouri Hospital due to smoke inhalation. The rest of the third-shift employees were sent home.

By 11 p.m., the fire was reportedly under control and trucks returned to the stations.

"It wasn't a big fire," said a spokesman for the Jackson Fire Department. "The fire was brought under control pretty quickly."

Lee-Rowan employs more than 1,100 people 750 in the Jackson plant; the remainder in the St. Louis facility.

The company produces a variety of ventilated wire storage systems, bath furniture and organizers, bulk shelving and other space-saving accessories.
