THEBES, Ill. -- Three Thebes village officials turned cowboys Thursday night.
Jim Sutton, town marshal of Thebes, was notified about 6:40 p.m. that 50 head of cattle were roaming along Highway 3, north of here.
He turned to Mayor David D. McNeely and Fire Chief Fred Petzoldt for assistance.
Others joined in the impromptu roundup, said a spokesman for the Alexander County Sheriff's Department.
The cows, which had wandered from the farm of Mitchell Lanier, were returned to their home within the hour, the spokesman said.
