He turned to Mayor David D. McNeely and Fire Chief Fred Petzoldt for assistance.

Others joined in the impromptu roundup, said a spokesman for the Alexander County Sheriff's Department.

The cows, which had wandered from the farm of Mitchell Lanier, were returned to their home within the hour, the spokesman said.
