DUDLEY - A 74-year-old man was killed Wednesday evening when a Union Pacific train struck the vehicle he was driving at a railroad crossing in Dudley.

Bruce Gant of Dudley was killed when his southbound vehicle crossed the tracks into the path of the train on Route TT in Stoddard County, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The engineer of the train, which included one engine and three cars, was Benjamin Bardell, 44, of Poplar Bluff.

According to a spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the red lights at the railroad crossing were functioning properly when the accident occurred.
