Navy Airman Apprentice Brian R. Cook, son of Allan R. and Glenda J. Cook of Burfordville, has returned from a six-month deployment while serving with Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 141 embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, which most recently participated in NATO air strikes in support of United Nations operations in Bosnia.

Cook is one of the 150 sailors in the squadron who participated in "Operation Deliberate Force," the NATO operation supporting UN forces in Bosnia.

Cook's ship was stationed in the Adriatic Sea near the former Yugoslavia republic when it began the air strikes Aug. 30, with other NATO aircraft, in support of efforts to compel the Bosnian Serb military to comply with UN resolutions.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft flew more than 600 missions over Bosnia before being relieved by USS America and its air wing. During the air strikes, Cook's squadron also operated part of the time with other NATO aircraft form the air base in Aviano, Italy.

The 1991 graduate of Jackson Regional II High School joined the Navy in July 1993.

Carey L. Hale

Marine Pfc. Carey L. Hale, daughter of Danny C. Hale of Jackson, recently reported for duty with Service Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, Kansas City, Mo.

Hale's new assignment is an example of how Navy and Marine Corps men and women are assigned to ships, squadrons and shore commands around the world. Whether serving in the Persian Gulf near Iraq or in the Adriatic Sea near Bosnia, people like Hale are making a difference as they work to improve their knowledge and skill as part of the most highly technical naval force in history.

Hale is a 1994 graduate of Oak Ridge High School.
