KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Jackson County prosecutors have scheduled a news conference to discuss the case against the man accused of killing a 3-year-old girl once known only as "Precious Doe."
Twenty-eight-year-old Harrell Johnson, of Muskogee, Okla., is charged with first-degree murder in the 2001 death of Erica Green. The girl's decapitated body, and later her head, were found in a wooded area of Kansas City. If convicted, Johnson faces the death penalty.
Erica's mother, Michelle Johnson, pleaded guilty last year to second-degree murder. As part of the plea deal, she agreed to testify against her husband.
Prosecutors allege Johnson was high on drugs when he kicked Erica in the head because she wouldn't go to bed. They say he left her to die, then later decapitated her.
