Christie Johnson of Cooter has been appointed the new student regent at Southeast Missouri State University.
She will serve a two-year term, ending Jan. 1, 1998.
She is scheduled to be sworn in at the March 18 meeting of the Board of Regents.
Johnson appeared Wednesday in Jefferson City before the Senate Gubernatorial Appointments Committee, which then recommended she be confirmed.
Gov. Mel Carnahan selected Johnson late last month.
Johnson replaces Jennifer Bertrand of Scott City, who just completed a term.
The student regent is a non-voting member of the board.
Johnson was graduated valedictorian of her class at Cooter High School in 1994. She received Bright Flight and Governor's scholarships to attend Southeast.
She is currently business manager of the Capaha Arrow, Southeast's student newspaper.
