KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A new statue called "Citizen Soldier" was installed this week outside the national headquarters of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The bronze statue of a soldier from the era of the Vietnam war is the work of Jim Brothers, a sculptor from nearby Lawrence, Kan.

It portrays two views of the same individual, first as a soldier in the war, then as a veterans' rights activist 30 years later.

Brothers is best known for the work he has done depicting soldiers from World War II.

Eight of his statues have been installed at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford, Va., and he will be preparing eight more.
