JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A new group is proposing a ballot measure asking Missourians to outlaw a certain form of human embryonic stem cell research.

The group Cures Without Cloning has filed the ballot language with the secretary of state's office. The intent is reverse part of a constitutional amendment narrowly approved by voters last year.

The 2006 amendment allows an embryonic cloning procedure that critics claim creates and destroys human life at its earliest stages.

The new proposal would prohibit that particular procedure but would not prevent other forms of embryonic stem cell research.
