EMINENCE, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri's newest state park now has a name: Current River State Park.
Governor Matt Blunt announced the name on Tuesday for the park near Eminence in southeast Missouri's Shannon County.
Blunt says the park along the Current River is the result of a first-of-its-kind partnership between his office and the state departments of Natural Resources and Conservation.
The Department of Conservation transferred land to the DNR last year for operation as a state park. The land is the former site of the Alton Club and the Jerry Presley Conservation Education Center.
Plans call for the majority of the park to open to the public in 2010. The DNR hopes to have an open house this summer to offer a glimpse of plans for the park.
