A New Madrid, Mo., woman received serious injuries when her vehicle struck a moving train in east Pemiscot County late Monday evening. Driver Laura Hunter, 59, was taken by air evac to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Gregory Hency, 42, of Benton, Mo., was the engine operator on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. He was not injured. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on Highway A, four miles east of Wardell, Mo., when Hunter was traveling through a signaled crossing. She failed to stop and struck one of the rail cars in the train. The crossing was equipped with a light-and-bell combination signal device.
