MATTHEWS, Mo. -- A New Madrid woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident Monday in New Madrid County. According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 11:05 p.m. on U.S. 61, two miles south of Matthews, southbound motorist Charles Nelson, 21, of New Madrid drove off the left side of the road, struck a culvert and overturned. MATTHEWS, Mo. -- A New Madrid woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident Monday in New Madrid County.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 11:05 p.m. on U.S. 61, two miles south of Matthews, southbound motorist Charles Nelson, 21, of New Madrid drove off the left side of the road, struck a culvert and overturned. Nelson's passenger, Tiffany Langley, 20, also of New Madrid, was ejected from the vehicle.

Langley was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 p.m. by New Madrid County Deputy Coroner Ralph Barnwell and taken to Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.

Nelson received moderate injuries and transported by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
