A new president and vice president were elected to the Cape Girardeau School Board during a special meeting Wednesday.

Fellow board members elected vice president Kyle McDonald as president and member Jeff Glenn as vice president. This will be McDonald's second stint as president and Glenn's first as vice president. Tony Smee had served as president.

"I just look forward to leading the board in the direction that Tony and the rest of the board have already established and continue moving forward," McDonald said.

Glenn said he's "happy to be able to serve."

Since three positions were up for election and three people filed, no election was needed. They include incumbents Smee and Don Call, and Phil Moore, who had been on the board previously.

Board member Stacy Kinder did not run this year.

With superintendent Jim Welker serving as board chairman, members voted 4-3 for McDonald as president and 5-2 for Glenn as vice president.

Making up the 4-3 vote for McDonald were McDonald himself and members Lynn Ware, Moore and Glenn. Call, member Adrian Toole and Smee himself voted for Smee.

The 5-2 vote for Glenn had McDonald, Toole, Ware, Moore and Glenn himself voting for Glenn for vice president. Smee and Call voted for Call. Beth Poyner, who administered the oath of office to Smee, Call and Moore, was appointed board secretary.

Neil Glass, assistant superintendent of support services, was named board treasurer.

Call was named Missouri School Board Association delegate and legislative representative, a post he held this past year. Moore was named alternative delegate.
