Not many doctors make housecalls anymore, but family practitioner Dr. Zorba Paster makes thousands nationwide each week on "Zorba Paster On Your Health." This hourlong radio call-in program debuts today at 10 a.m. on KRCU 90.9 FM.
KRCU is the local National Public Radio station.
Every Saturday morning, Paster joins co-host Tom Clorark to put the latest medical news into perspective, share tips for health living and offers a heart-healthy recipe of the week. Sandwiched in between, Paster answers medical questions from listeners.
"We're excited about the program," said Jay Landers, general manager of KRCU. "Our listeners are very health and fitness conscious, and this show fills a real need for in-depth, reliable health information in a personable, listener-friendly format. Zorba and Tom have such an easy rapport with each other and listeners, the show's not just informative, it's fun."
Co-host Clark said, "Zorba's completely approachable and down-to-earth. He likes his listeners and he respects them. So no question is too small to deserve an answer or too big for a patient to understand."
On the air, Paster talks about healthy lifestyles and prevention, as well as treatment. And he encourages listeners to take an active role in dealing with their doctors and medical issues.
"It's important to have a well-rounded life," Paster said. "It's a great way to keep things in perspective and enjoy life, and that ability to enjoy life is what good health is really all about."
In addition to his weekly radio show, Paster is an associate clinical professor in the University of Wisconsin at Madison's department of family medicine and practice. He also maintains a family practice in Oregon, Wis., and is involved in research projects.
