Scott Richards has joined Southern Engineering Corp., 615 N. Broadview, as a surveyor.

Richards, of Scott City, is a registered land surveyor.

"We recently expanded our office here," said Jim Johnson, manager of the office, which employs three to five full- and part-time people. "We more than doubled our space," said Johnson.

Southern Engineering Corp., headquartered in Carbondale, Ill., started its Cape Girardeau operation in 1986. Bill Schwegman is president.

Gary Arnold of Cape Girardeau has joined NPS Corp. at Perryville. NPS is a manufacturer and fabricator of expanded polystyrene, used in DEM, packaging, and construction products.

Melody Anderson of Jackson has joined the staff of the New Oldies 100.7 and KAPE Radio in Cape Girardeau as an account executive.

A graduate of Central High School, Anderson also has a degree in graphic communications technology and fine arts from Southeast Missouri State University.

She previously worked at JCPenney Co. as an advertising and visual merchandising specialist.

She is a member of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce. Anderson and her husband, Todd, have a daughter.

Sue Bippen and Shane Fisher have joined Special Effects Beauty Salon, 121 S. Broadview, as hair stylists.

Bippen, formerly of St. Louis, is a graduate of Stage One The Hair School in Cape Girardeau. She has two years of experience as a hair stylist.

Fisher, of Cape Girardeau, is also a graduate of Stage One The Hair School. She has two years of experience.

August Smirl has joined Bill's Family Pharmacy, 60 Doctors' Park, as a pharmacist.

Smirl is a 1989 graduate of the Oklahoma School of Pharmacy, and worked in the Tulsa, Okla., area since graduation.

Smirl, of Cape Girardeau, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Smirl. "He's a third generation pharmacist," said Bill Smirl, who operates the pharmacy.

August Smirl is a graduate of Central High School. He attended Westminster for two years and Southeast Missouri State University for two years before going to pharmacy school.

While in pharmacy school, he was president of the Academy of Students of Pharmacy.

Bill's Family Pharmacy has been in Cape Girardeau since 1963.

Ken Martin and Barbara Martin of Jackson are new managers of Armor Mini-Storage North.

The Martins will operate the 260-unit mini-storage facility at 1678 N. Kingsway.

"We'll be offering some manager's specials," said Ken Martin. "This is new to us; we've been truck drivers and we operated a janitorial service.

The Martins still serve as bus drivers. "Barbara drives a Jackson school bus and I manage the Parkview School transportation system," said Martin.

Armor Mini-Storage North is owned by Loy and Mary Kay Welker and George Bockhorst.

Bonnie Dover of Cape Girardeau has joined DJ's Beauty Mart, 1020 N. Kingshighway, as a nail technician, and Kendra Tittle has joined the business as a nail technician and hair stylist.

Dover, a graduate of Sikeston Beauty School, has more than three years of experience.

Tittle, of Malden, also is a graduate of Sikeston Beauty School. She has a year of experience in nail care and hair styling.

Rick Crow has joined the staff of Auffenberg Honda-Mazda, 2611 Auto Park Drive, as sales manager. Also joining the staff is Jerry Fitzgerald as salesman.

Crow has several years of experience in automobile sales. He and his wife, Becky, live in Jackson. They are parents of two children.

Fitzgerald has five years of experience in auto sales, mostly with Honda and Mazda. A native Cape Girardean, he was in auto sales in Texas and Florida before returning to the area.
