A strip mall development is in the works between Cape Girardeau and Scott City on East Outer Road, near the truck-driving school, and it's looking for potential tenants.

Todd Wasilewski, physical therapist and co-owner of Garret Customs in Scott City, said he's looking for people interested in having a business in that area.

"We're looking to build places to let," Wasilewski said. "Decent retail, warehouse space is hard to come by."

Wasilewski said he'd like to be able to build to suit, so ideally, he would like to have tenants lined out before he starts construction in the next two to three months.

"We're looking at having two 5,000-square-foot spaces for lease," Wasilewski said.

And it's hard to argue with the location. Wasilewski said there's easy access to Interstate 55 via exit 91, the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport exit.

"There's great visibility," he added.

Several businesses are already in place nearby, including Lawless Harley-Davidson and Pro Tech Diesel Repair.

Wasilewski said he's not a real estate developer, but the land was available, he bought it, and now he's looking to draw more commerce to the area.

"I think it's a good, different type of space," Wasilewski said. "It's not a traditional retail area but that could go over well there."
