The former fire station at 1429 Kurre Lane in Cape Girardeau soon will house a branch of Sho-Me Technologies, a telecommunications firm that is part of the Missouri Electric Cooperative family.
Rhonda Whitlock, account executive for Southeast Missouri, said Sho-Me Technologies originally started a fiber build in 1999 in the southwest Missouri area, near Springfield.
We were amazed at how much power there was in fiber, she said.
In 2012, the firm began serving businesses in southwest Missouri, and businesses in Southeast Missouri were asking for its services too.
The firm doesnt provide residential services, Whitlock said, instead focusing on providing quality, high-security service for businesses such as banks or hospitals, or even the court system.
When we sell a circuit, were the only ones on that circuit, she said, adding there are several redundancies built in to enhance security.
We are open for business right now, she said, adding the company has purchased the former fire station No. 4 on Kurre Lane.
We were thrilled to get the fire station, Whitlock said, adding the company had been searching for a building with a tall enough garage ceiling to accommodate its equipment, with room for offices and secure equipment storage.
When the station became available, we thought, How perfect, she said.
Statewide, Sho-Me Technologies has more than 8,500 miles of fiber, according to a map at www.shometech.com.
The Cape Girardeau facility joins locations in Marshfield, St. Louis, Union, Lees Summit, Springfield, Reeds Spring, Fulton and El Dorado Springs, according to the business license application.
