Mrs. N lives alone and relies heavily on the companionship of her dog Nicky.
When she is not spending time with Nicky, Mrs. N likes to read her Bible. She suffers from diabetes and hypertension, and has trouble reading small print.
She lives in a small, rented house and pays her bills from Social Security checks and Medicaid.
Through the Christmas for the Elderly program, a joint project of the Cape Girardeau County Health Department and Southeast Missourian, Mrs. N hopes to receive some items on her wish list. These are items she would otherwise be unable to afford.
A King James Bible with large print would enable Mrs. N to read without straining her eyes. She would also like a set of stainless steel flatware. Other items on her wish list: bedroom sheets, large sweat shirt and pants, cross-pierced earrings, stationary and stamps.
She could also use some sugar-free candy and canned fruit.
To many, getting a hair permanent is a matter of choice rather than a luxury item they can't afford. Mrs. O would like to receive a permanent through a donation of a gift certificate from Christmas for the Elderly. She suffers from diabetes and has no one from her family to rely on. She lives on Social Security and Medicaid.
Mrs. O has requested over-the-knee hosiery, a large whole slip and a gift certificate for food. Other items: wash cloths, hand towels, bath powder and perfume. She would also benefit from paper products, stationary and stamps.
Gifts may be delivered to the Southeast Missourian, 301 Broadway, or the Health Department, 1121 Linden.
Gifts or monetary donations may be mailed to Christmas for the Elderly, P.O. Box 699, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0699.
