CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Two antique dealers who previously leased space in an antique co-op have joined to open Attic Antiques.

Jim and Reva Maevers, who specialize in items ranging from jewelry to tools and primitives, and Gilbert and Marie Clinton, who specialize in glass, silver items, and clocks, recently opened the city's newest antique operation at 318 S. Sprigg. They joined two other antique operations in the same block Cooper's Collectible, 320-322 S. Sprigg, and Memories, 314 S. Sprigg.

"The 200 and 300 blocks of S. Sprigg are rapidly becoming noted for antiques and collectibles," echoed Clinton and Maevers.

Heartland Antique Co-op is located at the corner of Sprigg and William, and Doris' Flea Market, which features many collectible items, is located on Good Hope, just off Sprigg St.

The Attic Antiques building was completely remodeled before opening. Floors were carpeted, and all walls and ceilings were repainted.

"We want to provide a variety of antiques here," said Mrs. Maevers. "Collectors have their choice of glass, jewelry, books, tools, a few toys, and several furniture items."

Clinton has been involved in antiques about 20 years. He operated an antique shop at Sikeston, before establishing an operation at Heartland Co-op. He moved to Cape Girardeau about three years ago.

The Maevers have been involved with antiques about eight years.

"This is our first shop," said Mrs. Maevers. "We had an operation at Heartland about three years, and we display our antiques at a number of area shows."

The new store will be open seven days a week.

"We'll be here from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday," she said.
