SCOTT CITY -- Neighbors and friends got a chance to visit at the 19th annual Scott City Mid-Summer Festival this weekend.

Park Director Phyllis Spinks said more than 1,000 people attended each night.

"It was great, we had a big crowd on both nights," she said. The park grounds weren't wall to wall, but more like booth to booth, she said.

Craft booths, concession stands and games were available to entertain festival-goers.

"Lots of kids came for the magic show," Spinks said. "When they shot off fireworks, cars lined both sides of the street."

Other events were country line dancers on Friday, a parade, horseshoe tournament, cake walk and amateur hour on Saturday.

"This was the first year for the amateur hour, and we had four contestants in each age division," she said. "We hope it grows next year."

Two popular events at the festival were the Little Mr. and Miss Summerfest and Miss Summer Teen contests.

Little Mr. and Miss winners were Caleb Estes, son of Clint and Christine Estes, and Denae Reddick, daughter of Rob and Deb Reddick. Britne Warden was crowned Miss Summer Teen on Saturday.

The Mid-Summer Festival is not really a big fund raiser for the Scott City Park Board, Spinks said.

"It's more or less a community effort to get people together and to reach people of all ages," she said.

Money raised during the two-day event will be used for improvements by the park department.
