POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A Neelyville, Mo., man was in critical condition at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau Thursday morning, after he was hit by a tree Wednesday when he and his son were logging near Qulin, Mo.
Donald W. Miller, whose age was not available, was conscious but bleeding from the ears, nose and mouth when deputies arrived at the scene along Highway HH near Qulin, according to Butler County Sheriff's Department reports.
Initially, a woman called 911 at 4:14 p.m. Wednesday and reported that a man was trapped underneath a fallen tree. However, he was sitting on the ground and conscious, but unable to talk, when deputies arrived.
The Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter was summoned and deputies blocked Highway HH to provide a safe landing zone. Miller was taken directly to St. Francis.
