SIKESTON, Mo. -- More than 5,800 customers are still without power in the Missouri Bootheel region, three weeks after a severe ice storm knocked down hundreds of poles and caused damage to lines and transformers.
The Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives says 5,300 customers lack electricity in the Hayti area of Pemiscot County. Another 300 outages remain in the Poplar Bluff area, and 217 around Sikeston.
The ice storm struck southern Missouri on Jan. 26-27. Utility officials hope to have all power restored by the end of the week.
