NEARLY 150 BUSINESSES CLOSED IN CAPE IN 1999

During 1999, 149 businesses closed their doors, changed owners or type of license. More than 180 businesses applied for new city licenses during that same time period.

Because business licenses are required for new businesses, operations that changed ownership but not company names could easily show up on both the new business and closed business lists. Also, businesses that changed contact names on the applications would be listed as having closed.
