Local political candidate and opera singer Neal E. Boyd has been invited to sing at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla.
Boyd, a Republican running against Democratic Rep. Steve Hodges in the 149th House District, will perform on Tuesday, according to a Republican National Convention news release. He is an opera singer who won the 2008 edition of the talent show "America's Got Talent."
Other acts performing at the convention include the Oak Ridge Boys, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Taylor Hicks and 3 Doors Down.
However, it's unclear how the scrapping of the first day of the convention, announced Saturday, will affect scheduled performances.
The 149th District includes parts of Mississippi, Pemiscot, New Madrid and Scott counties.
