Several Notre Dame seniors have received scholarships to colleges and universities across the country. At an end-of-the-year awards assembly, the seniors were honored.
Five seniors received Elk's scholarships. They were: Emily Fisher, Angie Judd, Greg Rubel, Charlie Wehner and Paula Welker. Criteria for the Elk's scholarship award were grade-point average, ACT scores, extra-curricular activities, community service and leadership achievement.
Fisher, the daughter of Tim and Rita Fisher of Cape Girardeau, plans to attend University of Missouri-Columbia to major in journalism. She also earned the University of Missouri Excellence Award. The scholarship is worth $700 the first year of college and $500 the second. Fisher was also offered the Missouri Leadership Award and President's Scholarship from Southeast Missouri State University.
Judd, the daughter of Ira and Diana Judd of Scott City, plans to attend the University of Missouri and major in engineering. The daughter of Ira and Diana Judd of Scott City, she plans to major in engineering. She was also awarded an engineering scholarship from the University of Missouri, which provides $1,000 for her freshman year of study; and the Frank Blair Scholarship from the university, a $1,500 renewable award. Judd was also awarded the University of Missouri Excellence Award. She was also offered the Missouri Leadership Award and the President's Scholarship at Southeast Missouri State University. She also received the Girls' State Award.
Rubel, the son of Robert and Bonnie Rubel of Route 1 Cape Girardeau, will study at Maryville University. He plans to become a physical therapist. He was also offered the dean's Scholarship from Rockhurst College, and the Missouri Leadership Award and the Regents' Scholarship from Southeast Missouri State University.
Wehner, son of David and Barbara Wehner of Route 3 Cape, plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and major in business. He was also awarded a President's Scholarship at Southeast.
Welker, the daughter of Jerry and Charlotte Welker of Cape Girardeau, plans to attend St. Louis College of Pharmacy and pursue a career in either retail or research pharmacy. She also received a scholarship from Procter & Gamble. She was also awarded the St. Louis College of Pharmacy President's Scholarship and its Alumni Merit Scholarship. Both pharmacy scholarships are worth $1,500 and are renewable. She was also offered a University of Missouri-Columbia Curator's Scholarship.
David Kieffer received the Missouri Farmer Association scholarship. He plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University and to major in agri-business. He is the son of David and Catherine Kieffer of Chaffee.
David Turner has been awarded the University of Missouri Chancellor's Leadership Award, in which he will receive $500 in his first year of college. He is the son of Neal and Jo Tanner of Cape Girardeau. He plans to major in political science.
Also earning that award is Lisa Hoffman, the daughter of Richard and Mary Ann Hoffman of Cape Girardeau. She plans to major in journalism and literature. She also earned the University of Missouri Excellence Award and the Missouri University Scholars Award. The latter pays one-half of the student's tuition. Hoffman was also offered a scholarship to attend Webster University and the Missouri Leadership Award and Regents' scholarship from Southeast.
Amy Eftink and Lori Maurer were recipients of the University of Missouri-Columbia Curator's Scholarship. The scholarship pays the students' tuition and is renewable if the students maintain a 3.75 or better grade-point average.
Eftink, the daughter of David and Doris Eftink of Oran, was also offered a Governor's Scholarship to Southeast. She plans to become a medical doctor.
Maurer is the daughter of Jim and Teresa Maurer of Cape Girardeau. She plans to attend the University of Missouri, majoring in business or health.
Matt Strohmeyer and Tim Garner were awarded the Quincy College Scholarship, which pays a minimum of $2,200. Strohmeyer, the son of Gerry and Joan Strohmeyer, plans to attend Quincy and major in biology or chemistry. Garner plans to become a physical therapist. He is the son of Bob and Linda Garner of Cape Girardeau. He plans to attend Rockhurt College in Kansas City.
Meg Beussink, Greg Bone and David Kieffer were awarded President's Scholarships to Southeast. The scholarship is worth $1,000 and is renewable for four years if the student maintains a 3.3 grade-point average. All three plan to attend Southeast.
Beussink is the daughter of Stephen and Deborah Beussink of Jackson. Bone is the son of James Jr. and Donna Bone of Cape Girardeau. He plans to study engineering. Kieffer is the son of David and Catherine Kieffer of Chaffee. He plans to major in agri-business.
Sandy Mohundro received a $500 scholarship to attend Stage One: The Hair School. The daughter of Larry and Mary Ellen Mohundro of Cape Girardeau, she plans to become a licensed beautician and then pursue a college degree in business management.
Christine Auer received the Bausch & Lomb Science Award, which makes her eligible for the University of Rochester Bausch & Lomb scholarship. She is the daughter of Andy and Margaret Auer of Cape Girardeau. This award recognizes the junior who has attained the highest scholastic standing in science subjects. The designation carries with it scholarship funds, the minimum amount being $5,000 per year for four years.
