Two tornadoes hit Cape Girardeau County during the storms that swept across the area Tuesday night. According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., the tornadoes were classified as EF-1 and had originated at about the same time, 9:15 p.m.

Two tornadoes hit Cape Girardeau County during the storms that swept across the area Tuesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., the tornadoes were classified as EF-1 and had originated at about the same time, 9:15 p.m.

One of the tornadoes, with peak winds of up to 95 miles per hour, developed about five miles southwest of Jackson, and lifted about five miles southeast of town. The tornado left a path of nearly six miles and had an average path width of 50 yards. It removed second floors from barns in two locations, and blew down trees and removed shingles from rooftops.

The other tornado, with winds of up to 100 miles per hour, originated one and a half miles southwest of Delta and lifted one mile west of Blomeyer. The tornado also left a path of nearly six miles, and had an average path width of 75 yards. It ripped the outer roof from Delta One Stop, and metal and lumber from the roof was blown onto the nearby home of Jeremy and Elizabeth Henson, causing significant damage to the home and vehicles. The tornado caused power lines to be knocked down in Delta, and electricity wasn't restored until early Wednesday. There were no fatalities or serious injuries reported in connection with either tornado.
