"Following this review, the Missouri National Guard has determined that the Portageville armory is a key facility and will continue to be a valuable asset to the community and Guard family," according to a statement provided by Col. Wendul G. Hagler with the Missouri National Guard.

Earlier in November, Gen. Stephen Danner had indicated his plans to close the Portageville site early in 2011.
