Jackson High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members celebrated National FCCLA Week from Feb. 9 to 15 with the theme "Creating Connections." Jackson Mayor Paul Sander signed a proclamation at city hall on Feb. 7 to recognize the week set aside for the organization.

The organization for family and consumer science students through grade 12 helps teens extends classroom learning through chapter projects that develop leadership and initiative and helps students learn how to plan, make decisions, carry out and evaluate projects.

Jackson FCCLA members and students at Jackson High School planned and carried out a faculty appreciation breakfast on Feb. 10; a pizza social and prize drawing on Feb. 11; a lip contest on Feb. 12 and trivia day at the high school on Feb. 13.

Jackson High School faculty and staff enjoyed a breakfast of pumpkin bars, fruit salad and a breakfast casserole prepared by FCCLA members and served in their classroom.

"It's nice to be appreciated," secretary Lynn Burns said.

School faculty and staff received personal invitations with a menu included to encourage attendance.

To compete in the lip contest, participants identified impressions made when FCCLA members kissed blank sheets of paper. The winner received a huge chocolate lip.

Activities concluded the week with trivia day. Questions were announced over the school's public address system prompting the student body to guess the correct answers. The winner received a Wal-Mart gift card.
