PANGKALAN BUN, Indonesia -- A tail section from the AirAsia plane that crashed into the Java Sea late last month, killing all 162 people on board, became the first major wreckage lifted off the ocean floor Saturday, but the all-important black boxes were not found inside. The red metal chunk, with the words "AirAsia" visible across it, was brought to the surface using inflatable balloons.
WASHINGTON -- The Justice Department is weighing bringing criminal charges against former CIA director David Petraeus over the handling of classified information, a U.S. official said Friday night. Federal investigators have been looking into whether Petraeus improperly shared classified materials with his biographer, Paula Broadwell, with whom he admitted having an affair when he resigned from his position in November 2012.
WASHINGTON -- In a move that surprised his most loyal supporters and former staff, Mitt Romney told donors Friday he is seriously considering a third run for the White House. He would join a field expected to feature more than a dozen Republicans with legitimate White House resumes, sitting governors and U.S. senators among them.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- President Barack Obama on Friday proposed to bring the cost of two years of community college "down to zero" for all Americans, a nationwide plan based on a popular Tennessee program signed into law by that state's Republican governor. The White House estimated 9 million students could participate and save an average of $3,800 in tuition per year if they attend full-time. Students would qualify if they attend at least halftime, maintain a 2.5 grade-point average and make progress toward completing a degree or certificate program.
