WASHINGTON -- A man wanted by Idaho authorities in an attack that left a church pastor seriously wounded will be extradited from Washington, D.C., where he was arrested after allegedly throwing items over the White House fence. U.S. Attorney's Office spokesman Bill Miller said a judge ordered 30-year-old Kyle Odom's extradition Wednesday. Authorities said Odom shot pastor Tim Remington eight times outside The Altar Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on March 6, then flew to Washington, where he was arrested while throwing items onto the White House lawn. Remington is recuperating at home.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Florida toddler who went missing last summer and later was found dead has been laid to rest. Lonzie Barton, 21 months old, was buried in a private ceremony Tuesday. Baker County Sheriff Joey Dobson confirmed the boy's parents, Christopher and Lonna Barton, were allowed to attend before going to prison. Both were sentenced on multiple drug counts. Lonzie Barton was reported missing in July. Authorities searched for him for months before Lonna Barton's ex-boyfriend led them to the child's remains in January. William Ruben Ebron Jr. pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter and received 20 years. Ebron said the child drowned in a bathtub while Ebron and Lonna Barton had sex. Lonna Barton pleaded guilty to a neglect charge.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Delta Tau Delta fraternity chapter at West Virginia University was suspended in response to a fraternity member's video. The fraternity's national headquarters suspended the chapter indefinitely Tuesday after a student posted a video showing him touring the fraternity house while making comments about women the school deemed inappropriate. According to a university news release, the student also described social functions that violate codes of conduct. The school said the member could face disciplinary action from the university's Office of Student Conduct and the WVU Interfraternity Council.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Couples shacking up together no longer are breaking the law in Florida. Gov. Rick Scott on Wednesday signed a bill to repeal the state's unenforced prohibition on cohabitation. Under a law that has been on the books since 1868, a man and woman living together could be fined $500 and locked up in jail for 60 days. According to 2014 census data, there are nearly 438,000 unmarried male-female couples among 7.3 million Florida households.
