Narvol Randol Jr., a member of the Convention & Visitors Bureau Advisory Board, has resigned effective March. 1.
"This is in accordance with my plans, which were previously announced in December," said Randol, whose term on the board expired Dec. 31. "I was not a candidate for reappointment at that time."
Randol, president of the board, agreed to be reappointed for a limited time to help the board process a group of fund requests that had been submitted at the request of the Cape Girardeau City Council.
In a letter to Mayor Gene Rhodes and individual councilmen Thursday, Randol said, "It now appears that the fund review process will turn out to be longer than anticipated.
"I have made other commitments that will conflict with my ability to dedicate the time necessary to do an adequate job with the review," he said. "Consequently, I feel it is in the best interests for everyone involved for me to step aside and allow my replacement the opportunity to be involved with establishing guidelines they will be asked to live by."
The normal procedure for a replacement to an advisory board usually takes about two weeks, City Manager J. Ronald Fischer Thursday. "This gives the council an opportunity to look at resumes of people who have indicated an interest in the board, and gives citizens an opportunity to volunteer their services for the board."
In his letter to the council, Randol said he "was happy to see that there is council support for the continuation of the CVB. I feel that it is important for the CVB to remain an integral part of the marketing efforts for Cape Girardeau."
Randol said he had enjoyed his association with everyone involved with the CVB and the board.
"I want to thank the council for the opportunity to be involved with the board for the past eight years," he said. Randol served on the board more than two years before it became the CVB Advisory Board.
