JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Incumbent state Rep. Peter Myers reported more than double the campaign cash on-hand than Democrat Donnie Kiefer in their race for the 160th District House seat.
The latest campaign finance disclosure reports cover activity from Sept. 1 through Sept. 30.
At the close of that period, Myers, of Sikeston, had $22,507.89 in the bank compared to $9,605.09 for Kiefer, a Chaffee businessman.
Myers raised $16,750 during September while spending $9,760.21.
At least 37 percent of Myers' money, $6,275, came from interest groups, mainly business organizations, or Republican lawmakers. Myers had a total of 25 donations, including some from individuals, for the $300 limit for a House race.
Kiefer raised $8,600 and spent $4,010.10. His campaign had $3,000 in debt.
Kiefer received 30 percent of his money, $2,600, from interests groups, primarily labor unions, or Scott County Democratic organizations. He collected a total of 11 donations for the maximum.
Myers was first elected to the 160th District seat in 1998. Because of legislative redistricting, the district now represents eastern Scott County and a small portion of southern Cape Girardeau County.
