Saying that management is not satisfied with sales and production, Miltenberger and Willing (M&W) Packaging U.S.A. Inc. announced Thursday that the company is taking some steps to adjust to the condition.

"One of the steps will be a reduction of the workforce," said Hermann Krimer, vice president of administration in a fax to explain the situation.

"We have communicated these steps to our manager and department representatives," said Krimer. "Decisions are being finalized among the M&W management team."

Krimer said it was unknown at this time how many workers would be released.

One source told the Southeast Missourian he heard the number of layoffs would be "about 20."

The firm, which dedicated its $40 million, 147,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at a site north of Cape Girardeau in May 1991, has between 175 and 200 full-time employees.

M&W produces plastic packaging for the Procter and Gamble plant.
