The 7 p.m. performance will be held at the Bethel Assembly of God Church, 1855 Perryville Road.

"This performance is truly a children's theater for children and by children," said Don Presson, who directs the programs along with his wife, Janet.

"The cast learned to play the music on the keyboard, sing the parts, painted the scenery and create their own costumes."

The Pressons give music lessons each summer, but for the first time, the students will present a public performance.

The second performance is scheduled for July 16 at the church and a third at the Cape Girardeau Public Library Aug. 6 at 2 p.m.

Parents and students have helped with the operetta, Presson said. Art director is Brenda Seyer, and the stage and choreography director is Anna Ruggiero.

The cast includes Jonathon Seyer at Jack, Jessica Braeunar as Mother, Clayton Reihn as the cow, T.J. Easley as the cattle buyer, Anne Voepel as the con girl, Lucas Presson as the giant, Amanda Otte as the talking goose and others.
