ST. LOUIS -- The longtime music director at Opera Theatre of St. Louis is making a change to emeritus status. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Stephen Lord will become music director emeritus at the end of the 2017 season, his 25th in the central leadership role of the theater. Lord, who is 66, said the changes have been in the works for some time. General director Timothy O'Leary said the company has no immediate plans to look for a new music director but will be re-evaluating the structure between now and the 2017 season.
