MALDEN -- The Bootheel Youth Museum will open its earthquake exhibit Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is only $1.
The museum opened in March and is filled with hands-on science and technology exhibits. It is located at 700 N. Douglas St. in Malden.
The earthquake exhibit is funded through a grant from the National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program. The exhibit was developed to educate residents of Southeast Missouri about the likelihood of earthquake hazards along the New Madrid Fault. It includes a recording seismograph, a model seismic telemetry system to show how earthquakes are measured, a shake table that shows seismic engineering and a computer system with information about reducing earthquake hazards.
A traveling earthquake exhibit is available to area schools. It includes information about the nature of earthquakes and emphasizes hands-on learning.
