During a special reception Sunday, the Cape River Heritage Museum presented a Jake Wells print to the Cape Girardeau Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission.
Jeanie Wells Troy presented the framed print of a drawing by her late father to Jane Randol Jackson, chairperson of the Lewis and Clark commission.
The print will hang above the mantel in the replica of Lorimier's Red House, which is under construction on the riverfront. The drawing depicts Louis Lorimier, his consort Charlotte, and Bartholomew Cousins as they might have looked in 1803 when they welcomed the explorers to Cape Girardeau.
Jake Wells gave his original watercolor to the Cape River Heritage Museum several years ago. The museum asked permission of Troy to have prints made.
During Sunday's reception, the heritage museum board also presented numbered prints to Expedition Members, people who have supported the museum with contributions of $100 or more for 2003. About 40 people attended the reception, which was held at Longview, the home of museum president Marjorie Thompson.
Beginning after the New Year holiday, the museum will offer limited edition full-color prints for sale to the public in celebration of Lewis and Clark's Voyage of Discovery.
Sponsors of this Wells print fund raiser for the heritage museum and Sunday's reception include the Bank of Missouri, Capaha Bank, Commerce Bank, DGJ Trucking, First National Bank, Wood-Huston Bank and the David Sherman Corporation.
