Two new exhibitions will be unveiled today at the Southeast Missouri State University Museum.
"Art Contained," featuring the work of Don Davis, David Bartley, Jacque Parsley and Curtis Uebelhor, will open with a reception at 4 p.m. today in the museum gallery.
Prior to the reception, the artists will hold a symposium amid their artwork. The exhibit will remain on display through Oct. 29.
The four regional artists box their ideas and images instead of painting or sculpting them. Everything from pieces of road maps to repainted toys are assembled inside boxes of various sizes.
The exhibit will feature five or six assemblage boxes.
The second exhibit, "One on One: People, Places and Things," is a photographic display by Southeast senior Jason Holtgrewe and art professor Edwin Smith. The exhibit will open today and remain on display through Oct. 30.
The 30 black-and-white photographs depict people, places and things in a variety of settings.
Holtgrewe has a keen eye for pattern and forms. Smith's photos reflect his travels to England, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Italy, France and India.
