Murder suspect turns himself in to Dexter police

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- A Dexter, Mo., man is awaiting extradition to Alaska on first-degree murder and first-degree assault charges, according to a news release from the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department.

Christopher L. Burleson, 24, reportedly turned himself in at the Dexter Police Department headquarters about 3:30 p.m. Thursday for a warrant from Alaska.

According to a news report posted online Thursday by the Anchorage Daily News in Anchorage, Alaska, Burleson had been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting last year in Houston. The charging documents were filed in Superior Court in Palmer, Alaska.

The report also cites investigator Ruth Josten of the police department in Wasilla, Alaska, as stating that while she could not discuss what prompted the shooting, drugs were involved.

The victim's name had not been released by Josten because of continued safety concerns. The victim was reportedly shot once in the chest by Burleson, according to the online news report.

At 11:48 a.m. Friday, Burleson arrived at the Stoddard County Jail where, as of press time Saturday, he remained. Bond was set at $250,000.
