The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Band Shell in the City Park. Conductor for this concert will be Scott VanGilder, a Jackson native and high school band director. Special guest for this concert will be Ruth Lane, school nurse for the Jackson R-2 School District. ...

The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its weekly concert at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Band Shell in the City Park. Conductor for this concert will be Scott VanGilder, a Jackson native and high school band director.

Special guest for this concert will be Ruth Lane, school nurse for the Jackson R-2 School District. The former Ruth Wendel, daughter of Jacob and Allegra Wendel of Oak Ridge, she had two daughters, Amanda, 19, and Kristin, 12. They are also very active musically, performing with their mother and father, Roger.

The Lanes enjoy performing gospel music and have performed in several area churches and for various organizations throughout the St. Louis and Southeast Missouri area, including several concerts at Six Flags over Mid-America.

Selections for this concert will include "Somewhere within the Heart," "Wherever you are," and "Jesus will still be there."

The instrumental part of the program includes "Manatee," "Themes like old times," "Feuerfest," Sousa's "Fairest of the fair," "Queen in Concert," several marches by Henry Mancini and many more favorite band numbers.

The concert is free and patrons are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
