The Cape Municipal Band will present a variety of musical styles and guests at its concert Wednesday. The public is invited to attend the free concert, which will begin at 8 p.m. in Capaha Park. The Cape Municipal Band will present a variety of musical styles and guests at its concert Wednesday.

The public is invited to attend the free concert, which will begin at 8 p.m. in Capaha Park.

The concert will open with "Diamond Jubilee March," written by conductor Jon Fischer for the band's 60th anniversary. The contemporary overture "Chorale and Shaker Dance" will be followed by a special Baroque arrangement from "Sonata for Two Trumpets."

The trumpet soloists will be Mark Fulgham, music faculty and trumpet instructor at Southeast Missouri State University, and Scott Vangilder, band director at Jackson public schools.

Other special entertainment for the evening will feature Amethyst, a contemporary pop/rock group. Amethyst will perform selections dedicated to participants in the Southeast Missouri State University Music Camp who will be in attendance.

Celebrity guest conductor Robert Gardner will also be on hand to lead the band in the "140th Infantry March."

The second half of the program will follow a South Seas theme, complete with "beach bums." Selections will include the Beach Boys' hit "Surf City USA" and the musical score to "South Pacific," highlighted by vocalist Nona Chapman.
