Cape Girardeau's Municipal Band will perform a salute to veterans at a Memorial Day concert Monday at 7 p.m. at the Capaha Park band shell.

In addition to Monday night's performance, the band will perform at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cape County Park North during the Memorial Day observance.

Both the Cape Girardeau and Jackson municipal bands begin their concert seasons next week. The Jackson band performs at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Old Jackson City Cemetery for Jackson's Memorial Day observance. It will also perform Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Jackson City Park.

The Cape Girardeau band director, Ronald Nall, said the Monday night performance features vocalist Jonathan Stewart, choir director at Centenary United Methodist Church.

Among musical selections are "America the Beautiful," "Emblem of Unity March," "Chester," "Sinatra in Concert" and "Old Man River" featuring Stewart, "American Patrol March" and "Armed Forces Salute," a salute to veterans from the different branches of military service.

The concert is free.

Cape Girardeau's municipal band regularly performs on Wednesday nights at 8 at the Capaha Park band shell and will perform its first regular concert June 7.

Nall is planning some theme concerts, like a John Phillips Sousa concert or a jazz concert, this summer.

The Jackson band will perform Thursday at 8 p.m., with guest performers Roger and Ruth Lane, contemporary gospel singers. The Lanes recently moved back to Jackson from St. Louis.

They have been guest performers in the St. Louis area, including the Old Glory Amphitheater at Six Flags over MidAmerica.

Those attending the concert should bring a lawn chair. The entrance to the band shell parking lot is off Route D.
