The Jackson Municipal Band will hold its final weekly concert at the band shell in Jackson's city park, Thursday at 8 p.m. The band will perform two more concerts after August 5, the first being August 12 at the Gazebo on the courthouse lawn. The final performance will be on August 17 at 6:30 p.m., at the opening ceremonies of the Jackson Homecomers.
Special Guest for Thursday's concert will be the talented young fiddler, Liesl Schoenberger. Schoenberger has achieved national recognition for her playing. She recently won the official Governor's Cup and was named the best entertainer in the state of Indiana.
Schoenberger is currently the Missouri State junior fiddle champion. She has also won first place in our Southeast Missouri District fiddle contest, and is recognized as one of the finest players in the Midwest. She has spent the summer studying at the Encore String Program in Cleveland and is currently working on a new CD being recorded in Nashville.
The band's portion of the concert will include: "A Mighty Fortress," "Under the Double Eagle," Sousa's "Hands Across the Sea," several selections from the Star Wars Saga, a collection of songs made famous by Neil Diamond entitled "Beautiful Noise~" and many other favorite band tunes.
Spectators should bring a lawn chair for seating.
